We opened our doors for the very first time on Saturday 5th October 2013 within the fantastic facilities at Huntington School in York.

The school’s black box drama studio, sprung floor dance studio, large classrooms and multiple performance and filming spaces play host to our very popular main academy (6-18 year olds), and our fantastic Poppets academy (4-5 year olds).

• PQA York provide high quality, professional and up-to-date performing arts tuition, as well as offering the opportunity for young people to build confidence, learn life skills and make new friends.

At PQA York, we ensure all of this takes place in a fun, safe and happy environment.

Along side our classes we offer our Creative Stages programme providing feedback on your child's progress, specialist masterclasses, performances every term, local cinema screenings for the students work and the chance to perform in the West End.

• Our superb team of teaching staff, who are all experts in their field, provide classes in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and Film & Television for 6-18 year olds, and our Poppets Academy, dedicated to providing multi-disciplinary lessons for 4-5 year olds.

Every member of staff at PQA York are hugely dedicated to inspiring, engaging and motivating the young people who come to the academy, whether they want to simply gain confidence and make new friends, or whether they wish to go further into a career in the performing arts.

• As well as these fun-packed, unique and exciting lessons, the students at PQA York have many other fantastic opportunities to look forward to. Masterclasses from West End professionals, stage combat experts, magicians and stage makeup artists (to name but a few!) will further the students’ experience at PQA.

Our students will also have the opportunity to perform in showcases both at our Academy Venue and externally, perform in London’s West End, have their very own film premiere in a York cinema, join our professional agency ‘Quirky Kidz’, and take part in free Trinity Group exams.

At the core of our philosophy is a belief that our students should really enjoy their time with us. Our modules are all about having fun as we build their confidence, self-esteem and expand their imaginations all the time learning valuable skills essential for everyday life.

Our York classes cover the following modules:-

• Comedy and Drama

Classes In Comedy & Drama you'll get to grips with everything from improvisation and devised theatre to mime and mask work, scripts and vocal techniques – including projection and diction.

• Musical Theatre Classes

We combine elements of dancing lessons, singing classes and acting lessons in this module because, in a musical, you need to use all three to convey your story to the audience.

• Film and Television

Acting for camera is very different to acting on stage. The camera picks up every single twitch of the face and every little tone of voice. We look at the very honest and truthful acting style required for the screen in this module – but it's not just about acting!

You'll also get a chance to see how writing for TV and film works as well as trying the roles of director, cameraman and all the other people on set. You'll work from a mixture of real TV and film scripts along with stuff you'll come up with yourself.
